Let’s start it out with the beginning of Sumthin’-Special.
On Saturday, June 25th, 2001, Sumthin’ Special LLC., hosted it’s 1st Annual White Out Affair. Hard to believe that it was 10 years ago that 80 specially selected guests enjoyed an all-expense paid afternoon cruise on Lake Minnetonka. A small group of 10 met up at a local establishment later that evening. This was the beginning of the what has now become the Minneapolis Summer Reunion.
By 2004, 160 of Sumthin’ Special’s closest colleagues, pivotal business partners, and, most importantly, signature sponsors coasted down the shores of the Mississippi River and concluded an extraordinary day with nearly 1,200 other guests clad in all-white in Le Meridien’s pristine ballroom situated in the heart of the Twin Cities’ business and entertainment district.
Ever-conscious of Sumthin’ Special’s Mission and Purpose, this year incontrovertibly aspires to be larger, not only in scope and reach, but also in economic impact and social significance. Sumthin’ Special has tirelessly endeavored to position itself as the premier event planning and networking platform for the Urban Professional in the Twin Cities. But, more importantly, in each phase of Sumthin’ Special’s growth, a proportionately increasing focus is and has been placed on establishing critical business relationships, aligning with reputable, progressive and socially conscious sponsoring companies, and establishing an indelible presence and value in the communities we serve.
Through the tremendous success generated by the Annual White Out and Black Out Affairs, Sumthin’ Special thought that not only was it important, but imperative to give back to the community.
With the establishment of the Annual White Out and Black Out events as the premier, most anticipated Annual Urban events in the Twin Cities, Sumthin’ Special felt that this would be a great platform to contribute to various non profit organizations whose focus was on the development, assistance and promotion of minorities within our own community and beyond. As a company we look to identify the next non-profit organization to partner with prior to each event.
Over the years Sumthin’ Special has been proud to donate portions of their proceeds to these organizations:
Second Harvest
Minneapolis Boys and Girls Club
Why can’t I go.org
UNCF College Fund
Minnesota Lady Cats
St. Augustine School, a Track 750
Above the Edge organization
“Coleman/Hicks Family” charity
National Black MBA Assoc., Inc.
Fairview Lady Cardinals
The giving back to the community is a major component of our business model that we are glad to see others follow.
